Frequently asked questions and answers

Hypnotherapy Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) is a therapeutic approach that combines the techniques of hypnotherapy with the principles of Cognitive Behaviour Therapy. Hypnotherapy uses guided relaxation and focused attention to access a state where your mind is more open to positive suggestions. Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, on the other hand, helps you identify and change negative thought patterns and behaviours.

When combined, this approach is highly effective in addressing issues such as anxiety, stress, phobias, habits, and low self-esteem. By working together, we can help you gain insight into your thoughts and behaviours, and use hypnosis to create a response in your body, which your body can then remember and build upon, reinforcing positive change, helping you achieve your goals and improve your overall well-being.

No, you do not lose control when under hypnosis. During a hypnosis session, you remain fully aware and in control of your actions and thoughts. Hypnosis is a collaborative process where you engage with suggestions that align with your goals, but you are always free to accept or reject them. You will not do or say anything against your will, and you can come out of the hypnotic state at any time. Hypnosis is a safe and natural state that empowers you to make positive changes.

The number of sessions you’ll need varies based on your individual needs and goals. Everyone’s treatment is unique, and I work closely with you to create a personalised plan that aligns with your current lifestyle. Some people may only require a few appointments, while others might benefit from around eight sessions. On average, treatment typically spans six to eight sessions. This is relatively efficient compared to Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) alone, which often requires 6-20 sessions. During our initial consultation, we will discuss your treatment plan in detail, and I’ll ensure we regularly review our progress to keep you on track.

Yes, online therapy can be just as effective as in-person sessions for many conditions. Studies show that remote hypnotherapy can produce similar results, with the added benefit of greater flexibility. You can schedule sessions at a time and place that suits you, no matter where you are in the world. All you need is a computer, tablet, or smartphone with a built-in camera and microphone—no special software or technical skills required. I’ll send you a link to click on at the appointment time.

Most people can be hypnotised, although the ability to enter hypnosis varies from person to person. Success depends on factors like willingness, openness, and trust in your therapist. Even a light state of hypnosis can yield effective results if you’re motivated and engaged. Hypnotherapy is most effective when you’re ready for change, feel comfortable with your therapist, and have achievable goals. During our sessions, I’ll guide you to the level of hypnosis that works best for you.

There are some conditions that may not be suitable for hypnosis, individuals with severe long-term depression, psychosis, epilepsy, or certain breathing issues.

While hypnotherapy, meditation, and mindfulness all involve relaxation and focused attention, they are different practices. Hypnotherapy uses guided suggestions to achieve specific therapeutic goals, whereas meditation and mindfulness focus on awareness and presence without a therapeutic intent. Hypnotherapy is more goal- oriented and tailored to address specific issues.
